Professor of Social Theory, University of Cambridge
Patrick Baert is Professor of Social Theory at the University of Cambridge, and Fellow and Director of Studies at Selwyn College, Cambridge. He completed his DPhil at the University of Oxford and previously served as the Vice-President (publications) of the European Sociological Association and as Head of the Sociology Department at Cambridge. His work, which has been published in more than ten languages, includes Philosophy of the Social Sciences: Towards Pragmatism, Social Theory in the Twentieth Century and Beyond (with F Carreira da Silva), The Existentialist Moment; the Rise of Sartre as a Public Intellectual (Choice Outstanding Academic title) and Ideas on the Move in the Social Sciences and Humanities (edited, with G Sapiro and M Santoro). He has been a visiting professor at universities across the world, including Sciences Po, Brown, University of British Columbia and the University of Cape Town.
