Professor of Divinity and Dean of CMC
Abdal Hakim Murad (b.1960) is dean of the Cambridge Muslim College, which trains imams for British mosques and which tutors traditional Muslim scholars on methods of intelligently understanding the modern world. He is also Lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity in the University of Cambridge. He has been described as Britain’s most influential Muslim thinker by The Independent newspaper.
His books include Commentary on the Eleventh Contentions (2012) and Travelling Home: essays on Islam in Europe (2020).
Abdal Hakim Murad regularly leads Jum’a prayers at the Cambridge central mosque, and has preached in major mosques in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Spain, the United States, and Canada. Recordings of his lectures are widely available on the Internet. His articles have appeared in The Independent, the London Evening Standard, the Daily Telegraph, The Times, the Catholic Herald, Islamica, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and Prospect. He has also been a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day.
