Internationally recognized artist, author and filmmaker
Michael Benson is an internationally recognized artist, author and filmmaker. His new book, Nanocosmos, will be released by Abrams on October 28th. A visual investigation of natural design using scanning electron microscope technologies, it is his sixth book for Abrams. Benson has pursued a wide-ranging creative practice. His work spans a range of media, from large-format photographic images to nonfiction books and essays, illustrated books, films and visual-effects sequences. Benson has had solo gallery shows in New York and London and is currently represented by London’s Flowers Gallery. His work is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada in Ontario; the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City; and the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts. His books include Far Out (2009);Planetfall (2012); Cosmigraphics (2014); and Space Odyssey (2018). He has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic, among other venues. He is a Fellow of the New York Institute of the Humanities.
